What do Cumbrian’s think about Royal Mail Sunday delivery

AN ONLINE sales boom could lead to post being delivered on a Sunday.

Royal Mail will trial a Sunday post service for major retailers, with online sales continuing to grow. Online shopping was already growing before the Covid-19 pandemic but lockdown boredom has accelerated the trend.

A number of large brands will take part in the trial. Couriers like DPD and Hermes are already offering Sunday delivery on parcels from giants like Amazon.

Nick Landon, chief commercial officer at Royal Mail, said: “The UK already trusts us to deliver their purchases six days a week both quickly and conveniently. Now for the first time our posties will be doing the same thing seven days a week. The last year has reset so many customer expectations and the desire for even more convenient and even more frequent parcel.”

“Deliveries has certainly been one of them. We always listen to our customers, both senders and recipients, and the ask here was clear: we love what you do Monday to Saturday, so please do the same on a Sunday. That’s what we’re doing, as quickly as possible so we can offer it to more and more customers across the course of this year. It’s another really exciting change delivered by our trusted people and network.”

Our reader’s had mixed thoughts on the scheme.

Jane Stamper told the paper: “I see no reason why not, I had noticed that other services were doing it.”

Manda Bradley was on the fence, she said: “It makes no difference to me.”

Martin Armstrong liked the idea, “I think this will be good.” He joked, “No more late birthday cards!”

Ann Huddart simply said: “Good idea.”
