THE Royal Mail is estimated to be over 500 years old and is still keeping Britain connected today.
But what time does the national postal service deliver and is it in operation everyday?
What time does Royal Mail deliver?
The Royal Mail doesn’t operate on the same schedule everywhere in the UK.
The company operates a network of roughly 37 mail centres scattered across the country.
Delivery times therefore vary for people in urban and rural areas and depends on the distance and weather conditions.
The Royal Mail says it aims to deliver to urban areas by 3pm, and rural by 4pm.
The company states: “We aim to deliver to addresses in urban areas by 3pm every working day and addresses in rural areas by 4pm every working day (exceptions are made for remote areas with limited transport links such as the Highlands and Islands of Scotland).
“While our aim is to meet these times wherever possible, there may be slight delays in some extreme circumstances, eg traffic delays or adverse weather conditions.”
Does Royal Mail deliver twice a day?
At the time of writing the Royal Mail doesn’t deliver twice a day in most areas.
But in 2019, the national postal service confirmed plans to bring back a second round later in the day – some 16 years after they were axed.
The plans form part of an ongoing review by the service to compete against Amazon and a rise in the demand for next day delivery,
Royal Mail said at the time: “This second delivery will consist of next day parcels, typically purchased online from retailers the evening before, and larger items more appropriate for van delivery.
“In many cases, the delivery will be less than 24 hours after the order is made.”
The service is expected to be up and running by 2023, but it will only be applicable for parcels.
Does Royal Mail deliver after 5pm?
The Royal Mail do not officially deliver after 5pm but can deliver packages late if couriers are running behind schedule.
The postal giant also operates a special delivery guarantee that promises to deliver a parcel between 9am and 1pm the next working day.
Customers are entitled to a refund if the request is not fulfilled.
Does Royal Mail deliver everyday?
The Royal Mail delivers Monday to Saturday every week.
However, weekend delivery depends on where you live and what kind of mail you are expecting.
Details on Saturday service locations can be found on the Royal Mail website.
