According to the Royal Mail, the last posting dates for Christmas are as follows:

  • Friday, December 17th – Royal Mail Bulk Economy

  • Saturday, December 18th – Royal Mail 2nd Class, 2nd Class Signed For, Royal Mail 48

  • Tuesday, December 21st – 1st Class, 1st Class Signed For, Royal Mail 24, Royal Mail Tracked 48

However, Royal Mail points out that with the ongoing pandemic – which has put the postal service under extra strain – it’s best to send items, especially gifts, as soon as possible.

International deliveries, in particular, should be posted early to avoid disappointment.

The Post Office, meanwhile, has warned customers that next Monday (December 20th) is set to be the busiest date of the year, as the Christmas rush reaches its peak.

It expects its branches to be busiest on Monday as people will be descending on them to send off their last-minute presents and cards.

Post Office customers are urged to visit branches outside of the very busiest times – such as lunchtimes, especially – if at all possible.
