Whitehawk launches £20m neighbourhood funding plan

The initiative forms part of the Labour government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods programme.

The meeting took place on Friday, October 17, at the Crew Club, where community leaders, volunteers and residents shared their ideas for spending the funds over the next decade.

The £20 million, exclusively for Whitehawk, is set to improve local opportunities, infrastructure and wellbeing.

Chris Ward MP said: “This morning’s meeting was a fantastic start. It was inspiring to hear so many thoughtful, practical ideas from people who know this community best.

“From better youth facilities and safer streets to new skills, jobs and community spaces — people here have a clear vision for Whitehawk’s future.”

He emphasised that this investment “is about putting power back in local hands” and that Whitehawk, not Westminster, will decide how best to use the funds.

Mr Ward announced that this meeting is the first of many, with a series of further community meetings scheduled for the coming weeks.

There will also be an online consultation for residents to express their views on how the funding should be prioritised.

“This is just the beginning,” Mr Ward added.

“We’ll keep listening and working with residents every step of the way to make sure this money delivers lasting change for Whitehawk.”

Details of future meetings and the consultation can be found on Chris ward’s website.
