‘Whole community’ left upset after theft of postbox dating to reign of George V

A community has been left “upset” after a postbox dating back to the reign of George V was stolen.

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses after the postbox was removed from a wall in the Gwynedd village of Llanfachreth.

It has been in place for around a century before being taken earlier this month.

A police spokesman said: “Do you know where this historic post box has gone?

“The box, which dates back to the period of King George V, was taken from the wall opposite the entrance to Llyn Cynnwch Fishery, Llanfachreth, Dolgellau some time between 4.30pm on 9/12/20 and 10/12/20.”

PCSO Gareth Jones said: “The theft of this historic amenity has upset the whole community.

“Someone has physically removed the stonework and then taken the post box from the wall.”
