Tom Bower’s new biography of Meghan Markle will make the Duke and Duchess of Sussex furious, according to one royal expert. The Mail on Sunday’s Charlotte Griffiths says that the couple – and their PR representatives Sunshine Sachs – will be scouring the revelations.

‘They will be going apoplectic about this book,’ she says. ‘They’ll probably be saying “oh it’s just noise” in public, but they will be reading every single word. They’ve probably asked someone from Sunshine Sachs to go through it as well to see where they can get their lawyers out.’

The release comes ahead of a busy few months for the Sussexes, who are expected to launch Meghan’s podcast on Spotify, a Netflix docu-series and Prince Harry’s eagerly anticipated memoirs. All are expected to generate multiple headlines, and the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English says she fears what effect the potential negative publicity will have on the Queen.

‘I just feel sorry for the Queen in all of this,’ she tells the programme. ‘She’s 96-years-old she’s on her own now, she’s lost her husband. Her health is not what it was. I don’t want to put the frighteners on anyone, but we have seen it decline a lot in the last six months. And I just think all of this is the last thing she needs, quite frankly.’

Our expert panel look at Prince Harry’s speech at the UN, which featured a number of his favourite causes – including his dislike of the media. ‘Now he feels like he’s got the chance to settle scores, but I think you’ve got to pick your moments in which to do that,’ says Rebecca English. ‘He just wants to fire off all the time and actually he just needs to be a little more circumspect in how he does it.’

This week also saw Prince William’s announcement that he’ll be travelling to Boston later in the year as part of his Earthshot Prize. But the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden is sceptical that the trip might involve William spending any time with his brother.

‘William and Harry were in the same cathedral – St Paul’s in London and they were kept apart for the whole time, they didn’t meet up once while Harry and Meghan were in London,’ he says. ‘So the idea that when he’s in the same vast country, that they might pop over for tea, really is for the birds, it’s not going to happen.’

Watch next week’s Palace Confidential for a special interview with biographer Tom Bower about his new biography of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
