Hermes is a name you’ll certainly recognise if you regularly receive packages from ASOS, Next and John Lewis.

As the UK’s biggest dedicated parcel delivery company, the company’s been going (in some form) since 1974.

With the rise of online shopping, we’d all be a bit stumped without companies like Hermes getting our goods from warehouses to our front doors.

However, it’s now time to say goodbye to Herems, as this month the company revealed it is running under a differnet name – Evri.

But why, exactly?

Why has Hermes changed its name to Evri?

Writing on Twitter on March 14, the parcel company said it was ‘going through a major transformation’ – after securing ‘significant investment and dramatic growth’.

And CEO Martijn de Lange added of the name change decision: ‘It is more than just a name change.

‘It’s a statement of intent of our commitment to leading the way in creating responsible delivery experiences for Evri one, Evri where.’

‘It heralds a new culture and an even better way of doing things in an ever-evolving world, building on our achievements and successes.’

However, some have speculated the name change is interestingly timed.

The company faced allegations of bad customer service and parcel mishandling from The Times in December 2021, which Hermes said were ‘unfounded’ and ‘did not reflect our business’.

One former freelance worker also spoke out to Metro.co.uk in January 2021 about reported low driver pay.

Of the name choice itself, Love Island alumni Shaughna Phillips summed up her feelings about it in a humorous yet critical tweet.

She joked: ‘Because Evri parcel goes missing? Because Evri day [their] reputation somehow manages to get worse? Because Evri time I see they’re delivering my parcel, my heart sinks?’

To continue using Hermes delivery or courier service, customers can now visit evri.com.
