Why Prince William’s 2025 interview proves the Royal Family have survived their toughest test

Prince William opened up about his life earlier this year

Last Christmas, the Royal Family gathered at Sandringham after what had been one of their most difficult years.

Both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales were battling cancer – a time which was, by Prince William’s own admission, ‘brutal’.

Princess Kate announced she was in remission in early 2025 and started to adjust to a new normal.

Charles has continued to live with cancer, undergoing regular treatment while maintaining a busy schedule.

While 2025 hasn’t been without its controversy behind palace gates, the mood among the royals could be different this Christmas, shifting from survival to revival.

And the sign – Prince William’s very candid interview with Eugene Levy earlier this year where he seemed focused, hopeful and his humour shone through.

A clip of the future King riding an electric scooter might just prove that the dark days of 2024 are behind the royals.

On The Reluctant Traveler with Levy, William was captured on camera in a sweet moment zooming around Windsor Castle on the e-scooter.

Eugene told the prince: “This is not what I was expecting. This is your mode of transportation?”

William replied: “It is round here. It gets around quite nicely around here, it’s quite fun.”

In another eye-opening moment, William confessed really what he likes to do in his downtime – and it isn’t anything fancy or extravagant.

When asked by the Schitt’s Creek star, 78, what he does at home, William laughed and replied with just one word: “Sleep.”

The prince went on: “When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”

Crucially, the interview offered a glimpse of the possible future of the monarchy and what William thinks this could mean for him.

In a revealing moment, he said: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda.

“Change for good, and I embrace that, I enjoy that change.

“I don’t fear it, that’s the bit that excites me, the idea of being able to bring some change.

“Not overly radical, but changes that I think need to happen.”

But William also told the Hollywood star during the AppleTV+ show that 2024 was the ‘hardest year’ of his life as the pair caught up over a pint in a pub.

He opened up and said: “I’d say 2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had.

“Life is said to test us as well and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”

It could be, quite possibly, that the fear that last year gripped the Royal Family, will this Christmas turn to optimism and hope.
