Witney Carnival: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang leads parade

This year’s theme was books and stories with the 1968 film being one of the most popular children’s movies of all time.

The famous flying car started the procession at about 11am as six steam traction engines and the Caledonian Pipe and Drum Band followed behind.

Next up in the march were schools and youth and community groups, including 50 Vicious Vikings.

Following the parade, the fun continued with the carnival on the Leys with activities, attraction live music and a food and drink court.

A Witney Town Council spokesperson said: “We had such a great time at Witney Carnival.

“It was lovely to see so many happy people at our stall. It was really buzzing and busy all day.

“We have a huge appreciation for the hard work and dedication of others too; the organisers, the people taking part in the parade, all those volunteers, and the members of our community who come out, even in the most British of weather to enjoy it.

“There was such a fantastic sense of community, so thanks to everyone that showed up and had fun come rain or shine.”

Witney Carnival, organised by Witney Rotary Club, Lions Club, Round Table and Royal Air Force Air Cadets, and sponsored by local businesses.
