Woman debunks everything we think we know about ‘fluffing’ a Christmas tree

Whether you are about to delve into your loft for last year’s festive favourite, or buying a new one, a ‘faux fir’ Christmas tree is a firm favourite for many. And with December fast approaching, most of us will be starting to think about putting up our decorations soon, to get us into the Christmas spirit.

And whatever tradition you follow when you start to dress up your home for Christmas, if you are not opting for a real tree, then there’s one task that needs completing – and that’s fluffing up the artificial branches. Real tree lovers won’t need to consider this vital manoeuvre, but anyone who prefers a boxed tree will know the importance of branch spacing before they can start to decorate it, the Mirror reports.

One festive fan is helping people realise how to properly ‘fluff up’ your tree. The woman, who usually reviews campsites with her partner on her page @thatweirdcouplee, has shared her secret to creating the most natural-looking Christmas tree on TikTok.

In a tutorial video, she jokes: “Surprisingly, I’m not a professional ‘fluffer’, but I will give you some good tips”. The woman then shows her non-decorated Christmas tree that’s fresh out of the box, panning in on a set of branches that haven’t yet been separated to achieve that fluffy, natural-looking effect with no gaps.

She says: “What everyone does, is that start at the back and they go sideways – like flat-on – so you end up with branch shelves”. The TikToker demonstrates this method by separating each branch from the back, fanning them out evenly to create a shelf – but this is where everyone is going wrong, according to her.

The woman continues: “That’s where we’re going wrong people, as you can see that gap I’m going to get”. Instead, the festive fan fluffs her Christmas tree branches out in random directions, to promote a more natural-looking finish.
