Woman who made £500,000 selling clothes on Vinted and Depop shares key to success

A woman who has raked in over £500,000 by selling on Vinted and Depop has shared her secrets to success. Christie, a seasoned reseller for over a decade, took to TikTok to share her top three tips for selling unwanted items.

“I’ve never had a normal job,” she confessed in her video. “I get messages every single day asking me for tips, so I thought I’d share a video about my top tips for selling.”

Christie boasts more than 6,000 followers on Vinted alone, where she holds a stellar rating of 4.9 out of 5 after 1,400 reviews.

Lighting

“Lighting is everything,” Christie began. “You can have the best lighting in the world – but the items are not going to sell if it’s dark. People can’t see the detail, so invest in box lights especially if you live in the UK because you can’t rely on natural light.”

Consistency

Next on Christie’s list is consistency. “Post every day and post throughout the day,” she advised. “So stagger all of your items – do like two in the morning, two at lunch time and two in the evening.”

Postage

Speed is key for Christie when it comes to postage. She advised: “Post your parcel as fast as you can. Don’t wait until next week because customers are not going to shop with you again if you take ages to post your item.”

Christie’s savvy tips on how to boost sales have resonated with her 5,000 followers, as one TikTok user commented: “Thanks very helpful. Didn’t realise it was better to split listing through the day.” Another agreed, saying: “Never staggered mine so definitely gonna try that!”

A third follower shared their own success story: “I never trusted the stagger posting but I switched because before I’d only ever get purchases late at night or early in the morning, now I make them throughout the day which doesn’t keep me up at night.”

Addressing further queries, meanwhile, Christie disclosed her method for sourcing products: “I have lots of suppliers around the world that I have spent a lot of time finding and building relationships with over the years,” she explained.

And regarding how she deals with clothing items that arrive in less than perfect condition, she added: “I wash most items! With leather jackets you can sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the leather and leave it for 24 hours then shake it off and it absorbs the smell.”
