Woman writes grandma fake Christmas card – but prank goes awkwardly wrong

June received a fake card from “Jean and Gordon”

A woman who sent her own gran a fake Christmas card in an attempt at a festive prank, was shocked when it backfired.

Tegan shared a video of her nan opening the card she had written herself, claiming to be from a fictitious “Jean and Gordon” on TikTok, but it went on to reveal that her nan assumed it was a June she worked with decades ago, and criticised her handwriting, the Daily Record reported.

Nan Jean said: “She used to come to my house and cut my hair. Her husband died and then she met this lovely man and they’ve had a great time together – been on a cruise.” As she read on, June added: “Gordon hasn’t been so well and has had a knee-replacement. Hope you and [husband] Geoff are well, he was always the life and soul of the party. Big news our end, we’re making the move back to Manchester in February.”

Puzzled, June then speculated: “She must have married again and he died too before she met Gordon,” and reiterated her critique: “Her writing is atrocious – she used to be such a good writer.” Handing the card back to its author, Tegan admitted: “You’re right, it is bad!”

The story went viral with one TikTok viewers saying: “The whole story about Jean is making me scream!” Tegan later revealed: “I didn’t even write anything about Jean’s dead husband – she just went off on one,” reports the Daily Record.

Tegan added: “She said to me 10 mins later, ‘Jean must of had a stroke, her writing didn’t used to be like this’.”

Royal Mail even joined in the fun too, meanwhile, commenting on the post: “This is the best one of these vids yet! Your Granny is the best!” To which Tegan humorously responded: “She really is, please give her some stamps – she’s in turmoil I wasted a stamp for this.”

Another TikTok user added: “Please don’t tell her it was a joke card, she loved it,” but Tegan revealed the truth had already come out. “I had to before she wasted a stamp,” she added. “I’ll do it again for her wedding, anniversary or birthday though!”
