Workers back on picket line for Royal Mail strike

Isle of Wight postal workers have been back on the picket line this morning (Thursday), despite the rain.

Alongside colleagues across the country, members of the Communications Workers Union (CWU) are protesting about working conditions.

The dispute has been ongoing since August and this time involves workers from BT too.

Royal Mail previously said it had developed contingency plans to minimise disruption and would prioritise special deliveries, tracked parcels, Covid-19 test kits and medical prescriptions.

It has also threatened up to 6,000 redundancies before August 2023, because it said the action had created notable financial losses.

Workers say they are being told to change their hours, adversely impacting family life.

In August, Island employees said a pay rise did not match inflation and they told the County Press they felt ‘irked’ and ‘neglected’.
