School pupils from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are being invited to take part in this year’s Nuart festival as organisers seek the next generation of world-class street artists.
Youngsters from nursery level to Sixth Year will be invited to create their own masterpiece around “Poetry Is In The Streets” – the theme for this year’s festival which will run from April 23 to 26.
Their submitted artworks will be displayed at prime locations across the city during the festival, which has been named one of the top six in the world.

Aberdeen Inspired, who deliver Nuart Aberdeen, are leaning even further into the education strand, partnering with the University of Aberdeen for the first time.
The university will host the first day of the prestigious conference that runs alongside Nuart Aberdeen, drawing artists, experts and academics from across the world, and encouraging students to engage with the event and the wider festival.
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said he was delighted that Nuart Aberdeen will be tapping into the vision, talent and enthusiasm of young people of all ages in both city and shire.
“To have the involvement of pupils and students from primary to tertiary education is something that everyone at Team Aberdeen Inspired is both proud of and very excited about,” said Adrian.
“We can’t wait to see what school pupils from across the region create and we know it can only add to the richness and the reach of the much-loved Nuart Aberdeen festival.”
Adrian said he was grateful to the University of Aberdeen for hosting Day 1 of the Nuart Aberdeen conference at their historic King’s Campus in Old Aberdeen, while encouraging students to take part in the conference as well as being volunteers to help stage the festival.
Adrian added: “Everyone knows that art can transform not just places but also lives. How wonderful would it be if their involvement this year – be it a school pupil or a university student – inspires someone to make art, and particularly street art, the path they take for the rest of their lives.”

The designs produced by the talented artists will transform familiar areas into vibrant and thought-provoking spaces.
“This is a welcome cultural boost that will benefit residents and visitors alike. I especially look forward to seeing the contributions from local school pupils. Their unique perspectives will really help to brighten the city.”
Principal & Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, Professor Peter Edwards added: “As a long-time enthusiast of Nuart Aberdeen and advocate for it coming to our campus, I’m thrilled that the University of Aberdeen is supporting this year’s offering.
