Your memories of meeting The Queen in Slough and Windsor

HER Majesty is celebrating her 70-year reign and our readers shared their favourite memories of meeting The Queen.

Being so close to Windsor Castle, it’s not a surprise that many residents have spotted her in the area over the years.

Wendy Prada said: “I met her and Prince Philip when they opened Britwell Library.

“She was lovely and asked about my children and Phillip made a joke about how dodgy the heating is in new builds.

“I was standing next to the CEO of the building firm who put up the new houses, he looked so peeved.”

Another reader, Christine Ayres, also said she spotted The Queen in Britwell when she drove up Wentworth Avenue many years ago.

Understandably, many readers said they have come close to her when she was coming out of Windsor Castle.

Diane Carpenter said she saw The Queen walking up Castle Hill by the Theatre Royal Windsor heading to Daniels.

She said: “I wondered why there was sawdust on the road but brushed the thought off. “Moments later, majestic horses trotted along followed by cars with The Queen sitting with Nicolas Sarkozy, Philip, Charles with Carla Bruni, and Camilla in the mix too, I was in awe.”

Brian Davis said he saw her and Prince Phillip being driven down Slough High Street, where he watched from the steps of the old Carlton.

Jean Reeve said: “I stood very near to The Queen she was in a small roped of enclosure watching Princess Anne compete at the Taplow Horse Show many years ago.”

Tracey Stacey added: “I work at Royal Mail in Windsor and she visited with Prince Philip to mark her 90th birthday and Royal Mail’s 500th birthday.

“She shook mine and my colleague’s hand and I chatted to her about the scanner we use for barcoded items, will remember that day as one of the best ever.”

A couple more readers mentioned they met her at Thames Hospice, on Windsor Road, when they worked there.

Jan Foster said she met her and Her Majesty’s dogs several times.

She said: “I have a treasured photo of my first encounter with her when she came to open a new wing at the hospice where I was working.”

Dave Wood said Her Majesty stopped to talk to him when he was a 14-year-old scout as a guard of honour at Westminster Abbey.

Platinum Jubilee celebrations start from today (June 2) and take place until Sunday, June 5.
