Zara Tindall gets the monochrome memo as she joins trend sporting black and white Cheltenham races

Zara Tindall joined the trend of monochrome ensembles to Cheltenham Festival today as she sported a black and white coat to join the royal family at the races. 

Wrapping up warm from the British spring, the Queen’s eldest granddaughter, 38, wore a bespoke houndstooth, knee-length coat dress by Laura Green London, which she paired with maroon accessories. 

Proving her style credentials, the Olympian wore a deep red leather gloves, which she matched with an Aspinal crocodile-print bag, sky-high slingback heels by Emmy London,  and striking fascinator by Juliette Botterill.

In good spirits, Zara was seen cheering a horse on alongside her mother Princess Anne, 69, and Archie McCoy, son of Northern Irish former horse racing jockey Sir Anthony Peter McCoy.

The equestrian tied her blonde hair back into a short ponytail, and framed her face in a pair of golden earrings by Laurence Coste.

Opting for a natural make-up look, Zara sported a light layer of foundation and a lick of black mascara around her eyes, while opting for a nude lip. 

Her husband Mike Tindall, 41, was also in attendance and cut a dapper figure in a tweed three-piece suit.

Yesterday, Zara’s brother Peter Phillips arrived with his estranged wife Autumn.

The couple, who announced their separation last month, proved they remain on good terms despite their split as they strode side-by-side into Cheltenham Racecourse.

It is the first time Canadian-born Autumn, 41, has been seen in public since they announced their split in a public statement last month. 

On Tuesday Cheltenham Festival chiefs confirmed the latest confirmed case of coronavirus would not affect the four-day fixture that begun with Champion Day today.

However the glamour was somewhat marred by the appearance of multiple hand sanitisers dotted across the venue as a precaution against the coronavirus epidemic.

The latest case of coronavirus, the third in Gloucestershire, was diagnosed over the weekend and then announced hours before the start of the four-day Festival.   

More than 60,000 people attended the first day of the event, down 6,000 from last year, with racegoers attending from over 50 countries.

A host of celebrities including Carol Vorderman, Nick Knowles, members of the England rugby team and former Love Island stars were among those in attendance for the Champion Day yesterday. 

Concerns have been raised over why the meet is still going ahead held as the killer virus claimed its sixth UK victim yesterday with 382 recorded cases across the country.

The death comes after leading experts today warned Britain may be heading straight for a coronavirus crisis like the one which has crippled Italy.

Social media users have questioned the decision by Cheltenham organisers to go ahead, and why they didn’t follow the lead of other European countries in postponing sporting events in the battle to contain the spread.

Racing chiefs say they have increased the numbers of wash basins and hand santiser stations, and told how they have been liaising closely with the government as it prepares to welcome more than 260,000 fans over the four days.

Big-race jockeys are said to have been briefed by staff at the course as to the importance of hygiene and also recognising any potential symptoms.
