Zee Productions launches new puzzles under its Rock Saws and Bellica imprints – ToyNews

Preparing to celebrate its first anniversary this year, Zee Productions is readying for the launch of a raft of new puzzles this autumn, designed to shake up the market with its own rock ‘n’ roll approach.

Originally developed by Zee Productions’ own self-proclaimed metal-head, Steve Beatty, the Rock Saws label power-slid into the traditional puzzles sector by turning classic heavy metal album artwork into puzzles, with seminal artists including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motorhead, and the legendary stadium rockers, Queen.

“I want to make jigsaws that are for the music fan. Vinyl came back and I loved the idea of making great record sleeve art into jigsaws, maybe stick the record on and do together,” said Beatty.

Rock Saws’ attention is now being turned to the mainstream music genre, with the release of a range of 500 and 1000 piece puzzles for September and October this year, featuring official album artwork from late 20th century music icons including David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Clash, Nirvana, AC/DC and Pink Floyd.

Highlights include David Bowie’s symbolic studio album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars, whose cover featured in the Royal Mail’s Classic Album Cover postage stamps issued in 2010; one of the most famous album covers and best-selling albums of all time in popular music, Nevermind from Nirvana; and Exile on Main Street, viewed as The Rolling Stones’ greatest album.

On top of this, and just as Tom Hanks stars in Greyhound – his first war movie since Saving Private Ryan – military and puzzle enthusiasts can now look forward to the release of Bellica on 19th September 2020. This new military history-themed range of 1000-piece puzzles is designed by award-winning aviation artist and commercial illustrator Keith Burns and features ten WWII combat depictions that will be of interest to military history fans.

Memorable battles depicted include the Atlantic Convoy Attack by the Luftwaffe Fw 200; the Luftwaffe strafing D-Day beaches in Fw 190 Over Normandy; and the RAF Lancaster and crew’s last mission in Lancaster – When We Are Back.

The aesthetic of the range is accompanied by sleeve notes, detailing the conflict, the equipment, and the protagonists. The aim is to draw military enthusiasts “into the pleasure of puzzling, and puzzle enthusiasts into the world of military history,” stated Beatty.

“The success of Zee has been amazing and it’s way ahead of schedule to be launching the Bellica range. I am super excited to launch this with the amazing art of Keith Burns. I intend to make Bellica the home of military puzzles.”
