$2 Billion in Food Stamps Spent Annually on Sugary Drinks

Millions of dollars in federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, are on the chopping block in this year’s Farm Bill – which is stalled in Congress with no timetable for completion. The SNAP program, formerly called food stamps, allots from $150-200 per household member to families who fall below an income threshold to spend on food.
