50p coin sells for £400 because of error – and there’s 7m more out there

Experts are urging you to check your purses, wallets and pockets – because a 50p coin has sold for HUNDREDS.

The fifty pence piece has sold for as much as £400 – yes, really – on auction retail website eBay.

The coin has fetched the jaw-dropping sum all because of a small error.

Now, you’re being told to check yours – because you may be sitting on a small fortune.

On eBay, the Girl Guide 50p is being sold with the info: “Rare 50 Pence Coin – Girls Guidance 2010 – Royal Mint Error Coin.”

There are as many as seven million out there, according to experts.

The reverse of the coin features the famous three leaf ‘trefoil’ logo.

This is the global symbol of Guiding and represents the three-fold promise – and went down a storm among collectors and Guide fans when it was launched a decade ago.

However, this specific edition has traded hands for £400 due to a so-called error – although the seller has given no indication as to what it could be.

In 2018, a Girl Guide 50p was listed for £825, with the seller saying: “An Extremely Rare 50p 2010 coin.

“UNIQUE Mis-shapen bottem left star and centre dipressed star is a PERFECT star shape in centre small clover – this is not PERFECT on all coins, it is also a sign of authenticity.

“One of the rarest and most valuable 50p coins in circulation.”
