Royal Mail customers targeted in text scam claiming they have won an iPhone

The most recent phishing scam is targeting Royal Mail customers through texts claiming that they have won prizes.

People have taken to social media after receiving the fraudulent texts message that inform them they have an item ready collect, reports the Mirror.

However, the link redirects customers to a scam website posing as Currys/PC World, which claims they have won an iPhone 11 Pro – but there’s a catch.

In order for it to be delivered, customers have to hand over their personal details and pay a fee for shipping.

The text reads: “There is an item waiting to be collected. You took one of the spots on our Currys’ XMAS-List. Your iPhone 11 Pro will be delivered within five working days.

“Please confirm your delivery address and pay a small fee (£2.00) for insured shipping.”

According to those who pressed the confirm button, they were then taken to another website called “winanticipation” where they were asked for their card details.

Scores of customers have taken to Twitter asking Royal Mail for advice after receiving the text message.

Royal Mail has replied that it is “aware of the SMS and is currently investigating” and customers are be warned “do not click on any links”.

Further information on Royal Mail scams and how to report them can be found on their website here.
