New Year Postage Price Rises – UPS, Royal Mail, FedEx, USPS

Happy New Year but not for shippers, this is traditionally the time of year that postage price rises hit online retailers and 2020 is no different. Carriers both sides of the pond are putting their prices up and you’ll need to be aware so that you can pass the charges on to your customers accordingly.

UPS 29th December 2019

The published rates for UPS services will increase from the 29th of December 2019. UPS say that this supports ongoing expansion and capability enhancements as they strive to maintain the high service levels you expect from UPS. Headline postage price rises are rates for UPS Ground, UPS Air and International services will increase an average net 4.9%.

Royal Mail 2nd January 2020

Royal Mail business postage price rises kick in on the 2nd of January and you should expect price increases in the range of 5-6% on most services. The exact prices you pay will be dependant on your contract and volumes. Don’t forget that on top of the base prices you will also be charged the fuel surcharge. The cost to consumers buying stamps or at the Post Office won’t change until later in 2020.

FedEx 6th January 2020

From the 6th of January 2020, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, FedEx SmartPost and FedEx Freight rates will all see a postage price rise, many tariffs facing a rise in the region of 4.9%. Additionally there will be changes to shipping surcharges and fees which will further increase the real rate that you pay.

USPS 26th January 2020

Whilst there are no price increases to First-Class Mail Letters and Flats, Priority Mail will increase by 4.1% and and Priority Mail Express sees postage price rises of 3.5% , but those increases do vary by contract, zone and weight.
