Kendal Councilor Hazel Hodgson urges public to help save Sedbergh Delivery Office

A LIBERAL Democrat Councillor has spoken into support of a campaign to keep the delivery office in Sedbergh open.

Cllr Hazel Hodgson, for SLDC Kendal Rural, Shadow Westmorland and Furness Council Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale Ward, has joined her colleagues MP Tim Farron and Ian Mitchell in supporting the campaign to keep the office open after Royal Mail began discussions around its potential closure.

No official decision has been made by Royal Mail and an online petition has been launched to keep the office open.

Cllr Hodgson said: “I and the communities surrounding the thriving Market Town of Sedbergh do not wish to loose the Sedbergh sorting office and the local Posties who live in the community.

“Any down grading of service would reduce Post office support for the whole rural delivery and sub offices in Dent and Barbon too.

“I urge the residents to sign the petitions and write to the Post Office individually in objection and inform the Post Office; that Sedbergh has over 30 trading retail outlets down main Street offering choice and local, great choice in hospitality and comfort.

“An additional 49 new homes built by the end of the year, and that over 25,000 visitors p a checked through the Fairfield Mill Exhibition Centre alone.

“As an Internationally respected  Education Centre and is a Centre stone of the Yorkshire Dales walking and cycling routes we need the full Service and Local.”
