Bentfield Causeway post box set to be replaced with a stand-mounted one, the postal service has confirmed this week

A post box removed from Bentfield Causeway will be replaced, Royal Mail has said this week.

The box was set within the wall of a private property, but was removed to the surprise of residents.

Keith Garret said most people were opposed to its removal. “This box is well-used and serves a substantial residential area.

Royal Mail intends to replace the Bentfield Causeway post box

“Those we have spoken to all want the post box returned or replaced.”

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “This post box was inside a wall located on private property, which we were informed needed to be demolished and re-built as its condition had deteriorated. A notice was placed on the wall, however demolition had to take place urgently. When the wall was rebuilt, the third party no longer wanted the post box located in it.

“We are now in the process of replacing the post box with a standing lamp pedestal box, and will be working to identify a suitable public space to locate it and obtain the relevant permissions.”
