Community supports ‘lifeline’ Royal Mail workers on strike

READERS are standing in solidarity with striking postal workers.

Postal workers walked out on Friday across all corners of the UK, in what is being described as the biggest strike of the summer so far.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said its members were taking industrial action for a ‘dignified, proper pay rise’ after they voted in favour by 97.6 per cent in a ballot.

The union said management imposed a two per cent pay rise on employees.

CWU general secretary Dave Ward said: “There can be no doubt that postal workers are completely united in their determination to secure the dignified, proper pay rise they deserve.

“We can’t keep on living in a country where bosses rake in billions in profit while their employees are forced to use food banks.”

Maureen Balding said: “I would always support our posties they were a lifeline for many during the lockdowns x”

Barry Millar said: “The way this government is handling the economy I wouldn’t be surprised on a uprising POWER TO THE PEOPLE.”

Anne Walker said: “Well done lads and lasses right behind you.”

Andrew Mcbride said: “The way this country is going I wouldn’t be surprised if we are heading for a General strike.”

Charlie Dowthwaite said: “Good on these postal workers for taking up industrial action as it is the only way to fight back.

“They deserve a decent pay rise given the cost of living at present.

“It is absolutely scandalous and sickening to witness the like of BP making £6.9 billion in profits earlier on, ESSO making £1.4 billion, this Tory government giving tax breaks for the rich and encouraging tax avoidance to the tune of £billions.

“How much is it costing the taxpayer to fund the monarchy??? No I don’t know either!

“Never accept the argument that the money isn’t there, it is, the problem is it is in the wrong hands.

“I fully support this strike by postal workers 100 per cent and solidarity to all postal staff on this fight back.

“Keep up the fight, justice will come.”

Babs Grizedale said: “Fight for what you believe in ALWAYS GUYS.”

Christopher Wilde said: “Well done.”
