Fermanagh family’s Uganda missionary work supported

Ahead of their move, a special ‘Sending Forth’ service for the Carscadden family took place on June 8 in Dungannon Free Presbyterian church.

Serving as missionaries, the Carscaddens will be based three hours south of the capital city Kampala, where they will be working at Emmanuel Christian school and church.

The school has approximately 500 children and the church is an active church evangelising the local community, through door to door work, children’s work, open air and weekly prison ministry.

Earlier this year, Jill Mahon and her daughter Amber raised a total of £4,000 for the Free Presbyterian Church (FPC) mission board in order to support the Carscadden family with their missionary work in Uganda.

Jill has known the Carscaddens for many years as they attended the same church in Kesh before Ray was called to be a minister, and they moved to a church in Co. Monaghan.

To raise the money, both Jill and Amber had their long hair cut, each donating 14” to The Little Princess Trust to create wigs. They have been overwhelmed by the generous support for their fundraiser.

“We want to thank everyone most sincerely for their kindness to Amber, myself and of course the Carscadden family.

“The support and encouragement meant so much to us,” said Jill, commenting that there are so many “kind-hearted and generous people” out there.

“Everyone made Amber feel so special and this resulted in her not backing out of the chop.

“Both David [Jill’s husband and Amber’s dad] and myself are extremely proud of our wee girl Amber for donating 14” of her beautiful hair to help the Carscadden family and a sick child will also make good use of both our combined total of 28” of thick hair,” she said.

“We were delighted with the final total. This has been sent to the FPC to support the Carscadden family as they take up Gods Work in Uganda. I’m sure they would appreciate your prayers.”

Amber added: “I would love to do this again. I hope what I have done helps other people and makes them happy.”
