We said farewell to 2021 last night, and what a year it has been.
It has certainly been a busy 12 months in the world of news, and that’s not including everything with coronavirus.
From family heartbreak as summer drownings took too many lives in a series of tragic accidents, to violent and disturbing crimes such as the Kilmarnock stabbings.
Some events of the last 12 months have shocked and horrified our readers.
Here are the most shocking stories the Daily Record has covered during 2021.
Woman left lying in snow after fall by Scots postie ‘too knackered’ to help
In February, the Record reported about a Scots postman who left a frail pensioner lying frozen on her doorstep.
The Royal Mail worker reasoned his decision saying he was “too knackered” to help the elderly woman.
The moment was captured in a heart-wrenching video which ‘disgusted’ the family of Falkirk pensioner Patricia Stewart.
The postman was later dismissed from his role.

Mother, son and family friend die in Loch Lomond tragedy
In July 2021, Edina Olahova, 29, and her son Rana Haris Ali, 9, died alongside their friend Mohammad Asim Raza, 41, after drowning in Loch Lomond.
Two families were left heartbroken following the horrifying accident which left a fourth victim in intensive care.
The group had earlier shared pictures of themselves enjoy the water during heatwaves temperatures.
Following the tragedy, another child drowned in a waterway in Lanark taking the horror total of deaths to six in a period of just 24 hours.

Kilmarnock mum and daughter die in horror stabbing
Back in February, we reported on the brutal and devastating murders of Emma Robertson Coupland and her daughter Nicole Anderson.
The pair were murdered just 20 minutes apart by evil killer Steven Robertson who knifed the mother and daughter to death
Robertson later died in a car smash just 45 minutes after the killings.
Mum of four Emma Robertson, aged 39, and 24-year-old Nicole were laid to rest together on February 24.

Ayr house explosion caught on CCTV footage
In October, a horrifying explosion shook the town of Ayr.
The devastating blast occurred at around 7.10pm on Monday October 18, destroying a home on Gorse Park in the Kincaidston area of the town.
The property was home to a family of four made up of William and Marion Ferguson and their two sons aged 16 and 11.
CCTV footage captured the explosion that resulted in all four family members needing hospital treatment, with Marion and the 16 year old boy in intensive care.

Depraved Scots predator admitted raping and murdering defenceless pensioner in Glasgow home
In October, a vile predator admitted raping and murdering much-loved Scots pensioner Esther Brown after launching an “extreme and sustained” attack on her inside her own home.
Evil Jason Graham committed the crimes inside the 67-year-old’s home on West Princes Street in Glasgow back in May.
He was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow of punching, kicking and stamping on the 67-year-old’s head and body before striking her with pieces of wood from a chair.
The court was told how the evil 30-year-old left her lying in the blood-soaked property before going to buy tobacco with his victim’s bank card at a shop near her Woodlands home on the night of the killing.
DNA evidence led to officers arresting Graham, who was being monitored by police after being released from a sentence for raping a retired nurse in 2014.
