Former post office and nightclub goes up for auction

One of the most prominent buildings in Bangor has gone up for sale. The historic former post office and night club on Deiniol Road will go under the hammer at the start of next month.

The imposing Grade II listed building was built in 1909. and served as the city’s post office for almost a hundred years before its closure in 2008, when the post office relocated to the High Street. The period building was then converted into a nightclub called ‘Embassy’, later ‘Revive’, but it has lain empty now for several years.

Plans have been put in place, but not yet submitted, for the building to be developed into a bar, restaurant and club complex as well as a private medical centre, according to the listing, with potential for the former loading area to the back to be transformed into a multi-storey hotel.

It will be sold via online auction be held at 1pm on Monday, October 2 and at the same time the following day. A guide price of £700,000 has been set.

In the listing, Auction House North Wales says: “Auction House North Wales is proud to present to Auction a iconic and truly unique period building which was once the main Counters District Office for Royal Mail of North Wales and most recently converted into a nightclub, which is now ready for its next project.”

The Grade II Listed building dates back to 1909

Adding: “The full front of the building is Grade II Listed to keep the beautiful period features of this once main Counters District Office for Royal Mail of North Wales, it also has an unlisted attachment which served as a loading/offloading area and parking for postal vans featuring direct access to the main road and also includes an undeveloped portion of land behind it.”
