The pound is falling off last week’s highs in early trading on Monday after officials claimed ‘technical-level’ Brexit talks over the weekend had been ‘constructive’, but admitted that ‘a lot of work remains to be done’.

Speaking of Brexit, the Chancellor said he will hold a Budget just days after the UK is due to leave the European Union.

Sajid Javid tweeted: ‘On 6th November I’ll deliver Britain’s first Budget after Brexit and set out our plan to shape the economy and deliver our infrastructure revolution.’

Meanwhile, Superdry has extended Julian Dunkerton’s contract as chief executive until April 2021.

At the open: FTSE 100 in the red after the bell, down 0.37% at 7,220.16
