NHS Humber Health Partnership has urged people with non-emergency situations to consider other services as the hospital faces pressure
People could be waiting hours to be seen at Hull Royal Infirmary, here’s everything you need to know
- NHS bosses have asked people to consider alternative services as Hull Royal Infirmary’s Emergency Department has come under intense pressure, leading to likely waiting times for patients. The NHS Humber Health Partnership – which runs the hospital – said it had seen more than 300 people arrive to the department on one day alone last week, putting strain on the service.
- Around half of those are patients are said to have had less serious illnesses and injuries. The NHS says people could be “waiting hours” to be seen, especially if they have been triaged and do not require urgent treatment. Long waiting times are also expected for those who need to be admitted to a ward.
- People have been urged to consider contacting their local GP to see if they can speak with another healthcare professional when appointments are not available. Similarly, you can try local pharmacists or visit the Urgent Treatment Centre. That centre is there to provide medical help in a non life-threatening emergency and can help with common problems such as suspected broken bones, stomach pain, and rashes and skin infections, among other issues. Hull’s Urgent Treatment Centre is at Hull Royal Infirmary, and can be accessed near the main hospital entrance. The service is open from 8am-8pm, seven days a week.
- A spokesperson for The NHS Humber Health Partnership said: “We are always here for people who need us most. However, so we can prioritise the people who need us most, we would appeal to anyone who is not in need of emergency treatment to consider the Urgent Treatment Centre, their local pharmacist or call their GP practice to see if they can speak to another health care professional if their GP can’t offer an appointment.”
