Independent Billericay shop to close down due to ‘crippling’ costs

The owner has shared that she is ‘truly heartbroken’

An independent home and gift store in Essex is closing its doors partially due to ‘crippling’ costs. Levere Home has been open in Billericay for 5 years. Levere Home is a small family-run business, located on the high street. Established in 2020, Levere specialises in selling stylish and beautiful items for the home.

However, the owner has shared that Levere Homes will be closing in 2026. In a statement shared on social media, the business shared that it’s ‘impossible’ to keep a shop going as an independent.

This is due to ‘crippling’ costs and the challenge of competing with bigger chains. The owner has shared that her heart is heavy, and she’s ‘truly heartbroken’ about the news.

Levere Home is looking to close around the end of February. Owners have called for locals and shoppers to share one final Christmas with them.

Levere Home shared: “his isn’t an easy post to write, but after five unforgettable years, it’s time to close the doors at Levere. My heart is heavy, and I’m truly heartbroken and gutted that it’s time to say goodbye to something I’ve poured so much love into.

“From starting in a room at home, to a warehouse shop, and finally my beautiful shop on the High Street, Levere has been more than a business – it’s been a dream, a safe space, and a place full of memories. And it’s all been because of YOU.

“Times have been incredibly tough for independents. Crippling costs, the challenge of competing with the bigger chains – it’s become impossible to keep going, despite all the love and passion poured into every corner of this shop. If you’ve popped in for a gift, a chat, or just a moment of calm, you’ve kept this little shop alive. Every visit, every purchase, every hello has meant more than words can say.

“Before the shutters come down for one last time, we have one more Christmas together. Please, please come and share it with us, and take home the pieces, gifts, and treats you’ve loved over the years. I don’t know our official closing date yet, but expect it to be end of February – I will keep you updated. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Here’s to making this last Christmas one to remember.”
