The study, conducted by caravan insurance experts, InsureMy, analysed Instagram hashtags to establish the most famous destinations and attractions in Britain.

With over 4.9 million posts on Instagram, Cumbria’s #lakedistrict has captured the hearts of tourists with its breathtaking lakes and mountainous scenery.

In second place is the London Eye, which boasts over 3.4 million Instagram posts under the hashtag #londoneye.

This iconic landmark has become a must-see for visitors to London, as it offers a stunning view of the city’s skyline.

Following closely behind is Big Ben, one of the most recognisable symbols of London.

With over 3.3 million hashtags on Instagram, this famous clock tower has become a popular subject for Instagram users looking to capture a piece of London’s history.

The Cotswolds takes the fourth spot on the list of Instagrammable destinations, with over 2.4 million posts under the hashtag #cotswolds.

Known for its picturesque English landscapes and charming stone walls, the Cotswolds is a hotspot for tourists and a popular wedding destination within the country.

The Peak District, known for its natural beauty and abundance of lakes and waterfalls, ranks fifth with over 2.1 million Instagram posts under #peakdistrict.

The New Forest, a national park famous for its population of New Forest Ponies, takes the sixth spot with just over 1.8 million Instagram posts under the hashtag #newforest.

Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, comes in seventh place with 1.8 million Instagram posts using the hashtag #buckinghampalace.

Snowdonia ranked eighth with over 1.2m posts, Dartmoor National Park ranked ninth with over 1,095,000 posts, and Scotland’s Isle of Skye rounded off the top ten with over 993,000 posts.

An InsureMy spokesperson said: “With the ongoing cost of living crisis, many people are choosing to forego a trip abroad and stay in Britain.

“These findings feature various iconic attractions or destinations in the country. For instance, the Lake District and Peak District are great spots for hikers and campers, while Big Ben and Buckingham Palace are ideal for those interested in historical attractions.

“The list has something suitable for every Brit, with a harmonious blend of cultural significance, historical importance, and natural splendour, vividly portraying the essence of Britain. ”
