Late civilian mail-in ballots deserve to be counted, too

Incoming ballots are processed during a tour of the elections process at the Voting Equipment Service Center in Riviera Beach Tuesday, June 22, 2021.

What would it take to get a ballot initiative to amend the Florida Constitution to put everyday Floridians on par with our armed forces serving overseas? The amendment would codify a citizen’s right to have their mail-in vote counted, regardless of delays that may be beyond the control of the United States Postal Service. The 10-day post election day period to get your vote counted that’s enjoyed by non-civilians, should be sufficient for civilians as well. Just like the services need to compensate ballot delivery for unknown delays, so does the general public deserve that same constitutional right to have their undelivered votes counted within 10 days after the election.

Antisemitism is a big problem

Eric Veltri’s Nov.16 letter stated he felt Rabbi David Steinhardt was incorrect in writing that there has been a rise in antisemitism in the United States. But, according to a July 23, 2021 report, “The U.S Commission on Civil Rights Express Concern over Spike in Anti Semitism in United States …,” the Rabbi was correct. I feel it is very important not to deny these findings.

Progressives’ political math won’t add up

In mathematics something is either greater than zero, less than zero or equal to zero. In sports, you either win, or lose, or tie. So what are the options in politics? In the presidential election of 2016, the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party went for total victory and they got Donald Trump. Now, the “progressives,” by playing chicken with Biden’s agenda, have done it again. The dismal election results in Virginia are proof positive, or should I say negative. If the Democrats don’t get their house in order, and soon, there will be no house left — and no Senate either. If you don’t compromise, you not only don’t get what you want, you get less than what you had.

Dr. Ladapo’s resume deserves a closer look

In his anti-DeSantis diatribe of Nov. 14, letter writer Randall Frey cites the governor’s appointment of Dr. Joseph Ladapo as an egregious act. Perhaps the writer has not reviewed Dr. Ladapo’s stellar resume, but ignorance is no excuse for describing this accomplished medical professional as a “veritable witch doctor.” Is this not a racial “dog whistle,” the kind liberals are so quick to find in the words of those who disagree with them? One has to wonder.

New governor would make Florida great again

Florida is doing well in COVID control because so many of us masked up and got our shots. It comes despite our governor’s repeated and continued attempts to thwart the goals of science so he could beat his chest as the champion of the free-to-infect-others crowd. What is not good news is that so many otherwise intelligent folks buy into these deceptions. Ignoring Gov. DeSantis keeps us healthy and getting rid of him would make Florida great again.
