Local Leaders | Innovation: Clean energy group set to spring into action

We’re underway. Braidwood Clean Energy is incorporated as a not-for-profit association, it has a bank account and an interim committee.

Drop in to the first meeting on Sunday, September 1 (you can bring your father) at the Royal Mail Hotel meeting room 3-5pm. It’s called ‘Powertalk No.1’.

In future meetings we will be inviting other community energy groups to share their ups and downs with us.

Solar power is perfect for communities like Braidwood. We have the land area and we have the community spirit to work together towards a common goal.

There is no doubt that the sun will be the primary source of energy by the end of this century. I’m including wind power in that because it’s the sun that makes the climate that makes the wind.

If you’re using coal-fired electricity you are paying too little for it.

The damage done to the environment by coal mining and burning is uncosted by our current government in order to keep meddling media proprietors and other recalcitrants on side.

But if you’re using solar-made electricity you are probably paying too much for it.

There are companies today who see the future far more clearly than the politicians, offering a dizzying array of deals, and many people are confused and anxious.

Sadly, some of these plans rely on the price of electricity remaining high when calculating payback times.

The power of the sun is there for the taking. No-one owns it. That is our challenge and our opportunity.
