Mum’s gift of birthday cake and drugs intercepted by Royal Mail

Somebody’s not going to have a happy birthday this weekend as a gift of cake and drugs has been intercepted by Royal Mail.

On Friday morning, postmen and women at the Peterborough Royal Mail depot spotted the usual package.

Inside was slightly squashed chocolate cake with sweets on top along with a card that contained a large bag of cannabis.

Incredibly the card read “Enjoy!!! Love Mum XX”.

The package has since been handed over to police, who believe the cake may also contain cannabis.

It’s not known if the package can be traced to find who originally sent it.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: “We had a call from the Royal Mail depot on Tuesday, a PCSO went to collect the items this morning [August 23].

“We suspect there may be cannabis in the cake and it will be checked by a drug expert.”
