Post Office scandal: will justice ever be delivered? | News

Baljit Sethi broke down in tears as he became the first witness to address the inquiry into the biggest miscarriage of justice in British legal history.

After 22 years running a post office in Romford, Essex, the 69-year-old lost everything when his contract was terminated due to missing funds. “I was down and out. I contemplated suicide,” he said.

Sethi was one of hundreds of sub-postmasters whose lives were wrecked by the Post Office after the failure of a disastrous IT system called Horizon. Some 732 were prosecuted between 2000 and 2014 for fraud, false accounting or theft. Many are still waiting for adequate compensation. Some have died without justice.
