A postman who failed to help a pensioner stranded on the floor in the snow has left his job.
The Royal Mail said Thomas McCafferty no longer works for them following the incident earlier this year, according to the Daily Record.
Patricia Stewart, 72, previously told how she was left shouting for help for around 20 minutes after slipping on ice and hitting her head outside her home.
When she saw the postie approaching she thought her ordeal would be over and he would step in to help.
However, rather than helping her to her feet or summoning help elsewhere he left her lying in the icy conditions and walked off.
The moment was captured in a shocking video from her neighbour’s camera doorbell which disgusted Patricia’s family.
When she asked for help, the postman said: “I can’t help pal, I’m knackered. Absolutely knackered.”
A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We can confirm that the individual concerned has left the business. We are sorry for the distress this incident has caused.”
Speaking at the time the gran told The Sun she had been left with a big bump on her head following the fall in February this year.
She said: “Twenty minutes I was shouting ‘help’ and I was crying.
“I was lying partly in the snow and I banged my head.”
She added: “Even if he was knackered, at the end of the day that’s his job.”
She was later helped by Hermes worker Karolina Domska, 22, who then later popped round to see how she was.
A manager from Royal Mail visited to speak to the family and an investigation was been launched.
A spokesman for Royal Mail said at the time: “Royal Mail expect the highest standards of behaviour from our people while out on deliveries and collections at all times.
“We regularly remind our postmen and postwomen of the important role they play in their local communities.
“We were very sorry to learn about this incident, and for the distress this incident has caused.
“We are in touch with the customer concerned and will be investigating this incident.”
