Royal Mail makeover hints at break-up | Business

Royal Mail, whose name traces back to 1516, when the first postal service was set up during the reign of Henry VIII, has confirmed it will be called International Distributions Services from today in a move that could be the first step to breaking the business in two.

The FTSE 250-listed postal group, which is facing problems with staff relations and a decline from the heights of demand it enjoyed during pandemic lockdowns, announced the name change in July and it will take effect on the London Stock Exchange today.

The company has two main businesses: its British-based letters and parcels operations that carry the Royal Mail brand; and its General Logistics Systems or GLS international division. International Distributions Services will be the name for
