Royal Mail is reportedly failing to frequently deliver post, allowing dozens of areas to become “postal deserts”.
Bermondsey, Brighton and Salford are among the the impacted locations, with some areas receiving letters as little as once a fortnight, according to the Telegraph.
Households are not being notified of hospital appointments, being whacked with speeding fines and missing out on birthday gifts as a result.
“We are committed to improving our performance and accelerating Royal Mail’s transformation in order to restore service levels while meeting the changing requirements of our customers. We’re sorry to any customers who have not received the high standards they expect,” a spokesman for Royal Mail told the Telegraph.
Reports of missed deliveries come weeks after IDS and the Communication Workers Union came to an agreement that drew the curtain on a nearly year-long pay dispute.
Key initiatives in the agreement include later start times to help Royal Mail respond to the market demand for more next-day parcels, seasonal working patterns with more hours to be worked in the peak Christmas season, optimised single parcel network for larger parcels, more efficient indoor mail preparation and Sunday working.
The three-year pay deal also includes a 10% salary increase and a one-off lump sum of £500 for CWU-grade employees in Royal Mail and Parcelforce.
