Royal Norwegian Air Force arrive as part of Cobra Warrior

Cobra Warrior is a Royal Air Force-hosted multinational live-fly exercise held at the RAF station Waddington, from September 4 to 22.

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is to participate for the first time in the exercise with them being joined by the United States (USAF), Denmark, Italy and The Netherlands alongside the Royal Norweigan Air Force (RNoAF).

This exercise holds great importance for Norwegian F-35s as it allows them to practice advanced scenarios and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures in complex situations.

Cumbria is known as Low Fly Area 17 (LFA17), one of the nation’s 20 low-flying training zones, perfectly suited to F-35s such as this.

Brigadier Tron Strand, chief Norwegian Air Operation Center (NAOC), said: “The Royal Air Force and the UK is an important ally and good partner for Norway, and we are very happy to participate.

“Cobra Warrior is a priority exercise for Norwegian F-35s this year. It is a large multinational exercise, together with several allied partners, where we get to use the F-35 in advanced scenarios.

“This gives us and participating units valuable opportunities to practice and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures in complex scenarios.

“The exercise also gives us a good opportunity to practice deploying and gives us a good training benefit,” he said.

Cobra Warrior is a regularly scheduled biannual exercise.
