A number of papers lead with the news that police have received a report of an alleged sexual assault in 2003 following media allegations against comedian and actor Russell Brand. The Met confirmed on Monday it had received the report, though did not name Brand or announce a formal investigation. The claim is separate to initial allegations by four women that Brand assaulted them between 2006 and 2013. The Daily Record says Brand, who has strongly denied any wrongdoing, now faces a police probe.

The Metro notes that, at the time of the alleged assault in 2003, Brand was a “rising stand-up star who had finished treatment for drink and drug addiction” but that within a year he had shot to fame.

The Times says the fifth woman went to police just hours after the original claims were first published by the Times, the Sunday Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches, and that police have spoken to the journalists involved in the investigation to make sure that anyone who believes they were the victim of a sexual assault, no matter how long ago, is aware of how to report it.

The allegations have led promoters to cancel the last three dates of Brand’s tour of live shows, the i reports. The paper says the cancellations came after a food bank and a drug addiction charity severed ties with Brand and his book publisher paused all future releases.

The Sun’s headline on the Brand allegations asks: “How many more?” The paper says it understands that more alleged victims are “set to come forward to talk to police”.

The Daily Telegraph says Downing Street has described the allegations against Brand as “very serious and concerning”. The paper also reports on Humza Yousaf travelling to a climate conference in New York, saying he has been accused of “vanity politics”.

Similarly, the Daily Mail says Scottish Conservatives have accused the first minister of hypocrisy for “lecturing global leaders on climate change” as the Scottish government has failed to achieve its own climate targets. However, Mr Yousaf said his government was “putting money where our mouth is” during a speech at the New York Climate Week event, as he announced funding for countries worst affected by climate change.

The Herald highlights the fact that Mr Yousaf promised Scotland would no longer be the oil and gas capital of Europe, saying western leaders had been guilty of “catastrophic negligence” in addressing the causes of climate change.

The Scotsman focuses on criticism of the first minister’s pledge from climate campaigners – who said money for victims of climate disasters was welcome, but additionally missing climate targets was “akin to repeatedly throwing a brick through someone’s window while offering to pay for the damage”.

The Press and Journal reports that a man has appeared in court charged with the murder of another man who died after being hit by an ambulance in Oban. Robert Bromell, 39, was critically injured in the incident on the A85 Corran Esplanade earlier this month.

The National says former Prime Minister Liz Truss has “shrugged off” the rise in mortgage rates and “refused” to apologise for the impact of her mini-budget. The paper says Ms Truss claimed that interest and mortgage rates would have “gone up anyway” during her speech to the Institute for Government on Monday.

The Courier leads with a driver who crashed into a number of cyclists after failing to stop at a junction in Perthshire – the paper says Melissa McKelligott admitted driving without due care.

The Evening Express counted the number of “confused” drivers who breached a new right turn ban on one of Aberdeen’s busiest routes. The paper claims drivers face thousands of pounds in fines and that a council van and a Royal Mail vehicle were among those “caught out”.

And the Glasgow Times leads on a man who received a heart transplant after he had “nearly given up” – 61-year-old Steve Donaldson thanked the family of the man who donated the organ and will lead a cycle ride from Glasgow to the Kelpies as part of an awareness-raising campaign.

The Evening Telegraph reports on a convicted paedophile who has been banned from watching “erotic” cartoons during a community payback review. The paper says that during Gordon Simpson’s review, the sheriff noted concerns he had been watching animations featuring children.
