Scots TV historian Neil Oliver receives letters addressed to ‘the rightful King of Scotland’

Telly historian Neil Oliver has shown off letters he’s received addressed to ‘the rightful King of Scotland’, ‘sanest man in Britain’ and and ‘impressive hair’ .

Neil presents BBC Coast and Vikings and the more recently the aptly named Neil Oliver’s Love Letter to the British Isles.

He said he couldn’t thank the Royal Mail enough for getting the obscurely addressed letters to him.

He even posted up a picture of his postman online saying: “The Postest with the mostest! I genuinely can’t get enough of these. Long live the Royal Mail.”

He added: “Every day I love the Royal Mail (and our postman in particular) a little bit more.”

Amongst his letters, Neil received an incredible amount of artwork, mostly with drawings of his face, or alongside a dog or viking ship.

He also received one with just a photo of himself on it, and the additional words that he now had a beard.

The former National Trust for Scotland president joked that he could really get behind the letter addressed to him as ‘the rightful king of Scotland’.

One letter addresses him as a ‘Beacon of Light’, another as ‘the man with the big dog’ and a third as ‘the man with the impressive hair’.

He also joked that one profile pic looked like him ‘or Barry Gibb’ of Bee Gees fame.

He told fans they were full of ‘special nice stuff’ and added: “I’m keeping them forever.”

“Just one would make it all worthwhile but the steady flow is enough to make a grown chap cry.”
