Spalding Cycling Club honours Tim by providing funeral cortège

Cyclists honoured a popular member of a club by supporting him on his final journey.

Tim Bryett (65) had been a member of Spalding Cycling Club for more than 30 years but sadly passed away before Christmas.

A total of 13 club members created a cortège by following the hearse from Surfleet to the crematorium on Monday.

Tribute has been paid to Mr Bryett by club chairman Simon Hare.

He said: “It was important for us to do this as we wanted to honour Tim. He was a great guy.

“He was a popular member, very friendly and helpful to everyone. He was very keen on his bikes and mechanics and would offer help.”

Mr Bryett, who had served in the army, had been a part of the club for many years.

During this time he had held a number of positions in the club but will be best remembered for his role as press officer.

For up to eight years, Mr Bryett would send in reports of races and raised awareness of the club in the local area.

Mr Hare said: “Tim was a keen photographer and would take a lot of photographs at races.

“He has left us with a good record of many things connected to the club.”

Mr Bryett had worked at Perkins Engines in Peterborough and a number of his colleagues had also attended the service to pay tribute to him.

He was also a member of a running club.

Spalding Cycling Club had also honoured Mr Bryett during their awards evening at the Royal Mail Cart on February 2. A special tribute showing photographs of Mr Bryett was also an important part.
