Tesco launches huge recruitment drive for Christmas with 11,000 vacancies available

Supermarket giant Tesco has launched a recruitment drive for Christmas, with 11,000 vacancies available across the UK.

The grocer said roles are available in Superstores, Tesco Extra branches and at warehouses – with jobs to start immediately.

The positions come amid hundreds of thousands of redundancies as a result of the pandemic, with the roles likely to provide a life-line to many people who have been forced out of work.

Tesco said it’s looking for checkout staff, shelf stackers and pickers for online deliveries.

The jobs will be in place until January and see you working up to 36 hours a week.

The seasonal customer service roles will support teams in Tesco Superstores and Extras on what is the busiest time of year

But Tesco said after the seasonal period ends, there will be opportunities for permanent jobs in stores.

Tesco People Director Rachel Bushby said: “Once the seasonal period comes to an end, Christmas colleagues will be encouraged to apply for any permanent roles available in their stores.”

Successful candidates will be invited for an interview in store.

Tesco is almost certainly not the only supermarket looking for a helping hand over the festive period.

Last year Sainsbury’s was looking for 11,500 extra staff, while there always new jobs up for grabs at the likes of Royal Mail, Next, Boots and more.

Top tips to get your CV ready for Christmas

  • Make it no more than two pages – only include what’s absolutely necessary.

  • Be brief about less-important details, such as jobs you held a long time ago.

  • Presentation: Keep it simple and clean.

  • Make use of white space rather than lines or graphics to separate sections and use the same font throughout.

  • Print on high-quality, white A4 paper – first impressions count.

  • Mistakes: Typos, bad spelling and poor grammar turn employers off so check and check again – get someone else to read it.

  • Tailoring: Each job needs a different CV that matches your skills and experience.

  • Honesty: There’s a difference between selling yourself and inventing things.

  • Sleep on it: Give yourself a break when creating your CV and come back to it fresh the next day. This will make it easier to spot potential gaps or mistakes.
