Town council endorses Tiverton Neighbourhood Plan

Rev Ian Johnson

The Tiverton Neighbourhood Plan has taken step forward, after Tiverton Town Council endorsed it.

At its meeting on Monday, March 22 councillors endorsed the draft plan that had been the subject of informal public consultation during the Autumn of 2020 and early 2021.

This means that the council has taken ownership of The Plan and it can move forward to the first statutory consultation stage, known as Regulation 14 Consultation.

In his foreword to The Plan the Mayor, Councillor Colin Slade said: “I congratulate Ian Johnson and Richard Ives for taking up the challenge, setting the structure for consultation and producing the first plan for the parish.

“I thank all those who have contributed and look forward to seeing the Tivvy standard applied to all future planning.”

In addressing the council, the chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, The Rev Ian Johnson, said, “Taking account of the 2014 attempt around 70 people have been involved in developing The Plan.

“I thank particularly the small band of dedicated volunteers who have worked on this plan.

“We are also immensely grateful for the vast knowledge and experience that our consultant, Alison Eardley, has contributed – we would not have been able to cope without this support”.

The Regulation 14 Public Consultation starts on April 13 – with the formal public notice being published which starts the consultation period, which runs to 5.00pm on June 11 2021.

Full information about the public consultation is on the Neighbourhood Plan web site at www.tivertonneighbourhoodplan.org.uk/public-consultation.  The Plan and associated documents can be downloaded from the Documents section – www.tivertonneighbourhoodplan.org.uk/documents- and open TNP Regulation 14 Consultation Documents.

Richard Ives, the volunteer Project Manager for the steering group explained that a summary of The Plan is being distributed to all addresses in the parish.

He said: “Unfortunately a Royal Mail system failure means that the leaflet is being distributed a bit late, but it can be downloaded from the Documents section stated”.

Feedback can be sent in a number of ways, as explained at www.tivertonneighbourhoodplan.org.uk/contact-us .

Ian Johnson concluded: “The Town Council has now endorsed this plan and we really hope that as many people as possible who live and work in Tiverton now take the opportunity to embrace it and comment upon it.”
