White Eagle pub sealed off again after new assault in Reading

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 30s was assaulted at around 1.15am on Saturday.

Officers had cordoned off the pub this morning as part of their enquiries.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We received a report of an assault at The White Eagle pub in Oxford Road, Reading, at around 1.15am on Saturday, September 16.

“The victim, a man in his thirties, suffered facial injuries and was treated at hospital but has since been discharged.

“Anyone with information should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43230415649.

“Alternatively, provide information anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or via its website.”

It comes just days after the Oxford Road venue was cordoned off by police investigating a serious assault which took place last weekend.

The pubgoer is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked near the pub on September 9  at around 9.10pm.

The force said there was an altercation and a man sustained injuries to the head.

Speaking to the Chronicle earlier this week, the victim’s friend told how his mate is currently in intentsive care in Oxford after being transferred from Royal Berks.

Describing his friend as “well known” and liked, he said everyone was “confused” about what had happened with a lack of apparent witnesses to the incident.

Victor added: “The main feeling in the community is shock. Oxford Road is often busy 24 hours, 7 days a week so we are hoping that someone has seen something and will come forward.”

Police are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
