Woman who makes $30k-a-month on OnlyFans disagrees that it’s ‘easy money’

‘Online sex work gets glamorized as easy money, when it’s really not’

A woman who makes $30,000 every month from OnlyFans has rubbished the idea that it’s “easy money.”

The rise in popularity of OnlyFans has been one of the biggest online phenomena of the last few years, and there is no doubt that there is a huge money to be made from it.

There are so many stories and headlines out there about people who have quit their 9-to-5 jobs to pursue a career on the subscription-based platform that you might think it sounds like a pretty cushty gig.

But one OnlyFans model has refuted the idea that being successful on the platform is as simple as taking a naked picture and posting it.

Laura Lux makes around $30,000 a month on the platform but has warned people considering it as a career that it isn’t as easy as it may seem.

Before she started out on the platform, she was a stripper. In an essay for Insider, she explained that this meant she was sexualised from an early age.

So she decided that she “might as well turn that into something that allows me to live a fun, financially secure life” and joined OnlyFans in 2018, before it had become as popular as it is today.

Laura explained that she posts daily but users have to pay for more risqué content.

Her usual day involves a pretty standard 9-to-5 routine where she goes through messages, admin and planning at her desk.

“I’ll usually post a message to subscribers in the morning — something like ‘What’s your plan for the week?’ or ‘Hope everyone has a great Monday!’ then I’ll spend some time chatting with whoever replies,” she wrote for Insider.

“Then I take some photos or edit some content and keep an eye on my inbox.”

The conversations she has with subscribers can take up a large part of her day, especially considering she has more than two million followers on Instagram.

Issuing a word of warning to those considering an OnlyFans career, she said: “If you’re thinking about starting an OnlyFans account, I would really consider what the consequences would be for your future.

“Online sex work gets glamorized as easy money, when it’s really not. It’s hard work to make money on OnlyFans.

“The market is super oversaturated, and the reason I’m so successful is because I already had a following from MySpace, then Instagram and Patreon…I wasn’t starting from scratch.”

She also warned people to bear in mind that once they post something it will exist forever on the internet.

“So if you’re not sure you want explicit photos and videos of yourself to be out there, don’t do it,” she said.

“It’s not likely you’ll make a lot of money, despite what some creators may tell you.

“A lot of what it takes to be successful on OnlyFans is about being active on social media, and that means dealing with people calling you degrading names for engaging in sex work.”
