Zara Tindall has revealed she would be ‘horrified’ if one of her daughters got a tattoo, despite the Royal having her tongue pierced when she was a teenager.

The mother-of-two, who was labelled a ‘Royal wild child’ when she was younger, admitted it would be hard to complain if her children rebelled when they were grew up.

The Queen’s eldest granddaughter, 38, got a £35 tongue piercing at a tattoo parlour while she studied at the prestigious Gordonstoun boarding school in Scotland.

But her and husband Mike, the former England rugby star, are not in favour of body art.

Zara told next month’s Saga Magazine: ‘[Mike] absolutely hasn’t got a tattoo. I’d also rather one of my daughters came home with a piercing than a tattoo because at least a stud can be removed.

‘I wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if they did though.’

Zara and 40-year-old Mike live on a farm on her mother Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucester with five-year -old Mia, and Lena, 14 months.

They have three dogs, ten horses, as well as a similar number of cars including Land Rovers, a horsebox and a Jaguar F-Type.

Despite this, Zara still bikes into the closest village with daughter Mia, and Mike goes through the country lanes on a Harley-Davidson.

In June the couple became the first Royals to go on the BBC’s Top Gear and race each other.

Zara said: ‘I loved it, although I think Mike cheated because he came on my training lap, which meant he knew more about the circuit when it came to his turn.

‘He’s also done some racing driving before and when we go anywhere these days he’s always behind the wheel. I’m usually the one looking after our daughters on the back seat.’

Mike also made the Queen laugh that month when he removed his top hat to reveal a miniature replica tucked inside at Royal Ascot.

He has revealed it was made of chocolate and was a gift he was taking home for Mia.

Mike performed the routine for Sophie Wessex and Princess Beatrice, but when asked whether the Queen found it funny, he said: ‘They are your words, not mine!’

Yet his wife said it had made her grandmother laugh, in her interview for the magazine.

Zara is currently working towards a place in Team GB’s eventing outfit at the Tokyo Olympics next year.

The former world champion – who won silver at London 2012 – took time off when Lena was born but is looking to get back on the horse.

Last Friday it was revealed Zara had been paid £100,000 a year for a non-executive directorship at the Global Group of companies, owned by tycoon Dr Johnny Hon.

Appointed to advise on horse racing for a sports investment arm, she was contractually required to attend just two board meetings by telephone a year and four company functions.

The Duchess of York was also paid almost £300,000 from a firm chaired by Dr Hon, as well as a £72,000-a-year retainer for her non-executive directorship of his film investment company in Hong Kong.

Last night Dr Hon, 47, said her main role in the directorship was ‘to introduce a few people to me in Hong Kong’.

Dr Hon said: ‘It’s not because of their title that we work with them, it’s because of what they can do for individual projects. That’s what companies do – they employ ambassadors to promote their products and services.’

When the Mail first approached Mrs Tindall over the claims earlier this year a lawyer acting on her behalf said it was ‘wholly untrue’ she was a non-executive director of Dr Hon’s Global Group.

It was only when the Daily Mail provided documentary evidence of the £100,000-a-year contract between her and Dr Hon’s firm that they accepted that she had indeed held that role.
